Bamboo Root Carving of Longevity Deity Riding a Deer

Riding atop a deer, the deity of longevity holds a peach in one hand and supports a child with the other. The child is standing in front of the deity and has a rolled scroll in his hand. The deer has a conk of lingzhi fungus (Ganoderma) in its mouth. On the deer’s body is engraved an artisan mark in traditional seal script characters that read "Crafted by Hongyu" along with the surname "Zhang".

Zhang Hongyu was a famous bamboo sculptor from Jiading who lived during the reigns of the Qianlong and Jiaqing emperors.
