This work was written during the fourteenth year of the reign of the Qianlong Emperor (1749). The emperor was enamored with the calligraphy of Zhao Mengfu and practiced his hand by emulating his works. This piece, written in the guan'ge style (a form of the regular script), is an introduction to the content of the Poems on Deer Whistle Hunting.
