The wooden bowl with a wooden core is lacquered black and decorated with gold-traced motifs throughout. The interior of the bowl is decorated with a floral roundel, surrounded by four floral roundels alternating with four circular shou (longevity) characters (shou) around the cavetto. The exterior of the bowl features four rows of gold-traced longevity shou characters in different renditions of seal script. There are aAltogether one hundred longevity shou characters decorate on the bowl, strongly suggesting that it was intended for birthday celebration.
