LargeMediumSmallPrinter
< 1 >
Period: Qing dynasty (1644-1911)
Medium: ivory
Dimensions: length: 30.2 cm

The knife is flat and oblong. The thicker end is the haft. On one side relief carving shows dragons playing with a pearl, and on the other side, the endless swastika pattern. The plain part is sharpened as a blade, but the tip is smooth. At the transitional part between the haft and the blade, the knife is pierced with the floral pattern that resembles the acanthus pattern prevailing in the Baroque and Rocco periods. The paper knife might be made by a Cantonese craftsman who was influenced by Western art.
