Medium: wood
Dimensions: height: 3.9 cm, width: 10 cm

Item used in the Qing court

This root ink paste container is carved as a crab that has a rough back, a smooth abdomen, and vividly-depicted eyes. It is moving its feet and raising its pincers. The artist left a crescent-shaped branch at the crab's feet to give the container stability. Opening the crab's back reveals an interior with gold lacquer.
