Made of white jade with yellow flaws, the scroll-shaped inkstick rest is carved with four bats and interlocking flowers. Traditionally combining flowers and bats creates an auspicious meaning. The jade rests on a red sandalwood stand. The purity and elegance of the jade is enhanced when contrasted with the inkstick. In the Qing court, inkstick rests were frequently made of jade which was easy to clean.
