< 1 >
Period: Qing dynasty (1644-1911)
Medium: yellow agate
Date: undated
Origin: Qing court collection
Dimensions: height: 2 cm, diameter of the water container: 1.4 cm

The yellow agate brush palette is carved into a lotus leaf carrying a melon that has a round hole used for containing water. The piece rests on a wood stand that is designed as interlocking branches. The water container is small since smoothing a brush does not require much water. The softly polished agate has a smooth touch and beautiful color. With exquisite carving, the brush palette would give a sprightly feeling to the scholar's table.
