In the Tang dynasty many copies were made after the "Preface to the Poems Composed at the Orchid Pavilion" (Lanting xu), which described the beauty of the landscape around the Orchid Pavilion (Lanting) and the get-together of Wang Xizhi and his friends. Some believed that the original was kept in the mausoleum of Tang Emperor Tai Zong. This work is considered the best of the copies. It is said that this beautifully structured and elegant piece of calligraphy with clear strokes was done by Feng Chengsu.
