Bamboo thread, which is called bamboo yellow (zhu huang) or laminated yellow (tie huang), indicates strips of bamboo that are laminated onto a wooden base. The strips on the head are made into circles that surround a jade that is carved with a design of lotus and mandarin ducks. This kind of ruyi cepter is extremely rare in the imperial collection due to the difficulty of manufacture. The Qing court records reveal that only five pieces were submitted to the court during the Qianlong reign (1736-1795).
