The Palace Museum’s collection of engraved inscriptions includes over 4,000 oracle bones, tiles, and bricks from the Shang dynasty (ca. 1600-1028 BCE). The holdings also include engraved bricks from the Eastern Han dynasty (25-220), over 120 bricks from Kara-Khoja (unearthed in the 1930s among the Gaochang ruins), and tens of thousands of rubbings of inscriptions from throughout Chinese history.
