An Exhibition on Landscape Paintings of the Ming and Qing Dynasties

The Palace Museum will hold an exhibition on landscape paintings of the Ming(1368-1644)and Qing(1644-1911)Dynasties from Mar 8th to May 26th, 2003 at the painting gallery (rooms to the west of Bao He Dian). The paintings will on display by three parts, famous mountains and rivers, garden residences and pavilions in fairy mountain. It cracked the usual way, in which the paintings are displayed according to the history of paintings and combined the ancients' feelings to the mountains and rivers in the nature with the artistic expression. 54 masterpieces will on display including the works of the Zhe School of Painting in the Ming Dynasty, the Four Masters of Suzhou, the Wu School of Painting, the Songjiang School of Painting, the Four Monks in Early Qing Period, the Four Wangs, the Eight Eccentric Masters of Yangzhou and the Hai School of Painting. The caption provides readable artistic explanation to every ancient painting, introducing the painting history, the painting principles, the common sense and techniques of painting in order to satisfy the need for the cultural relic enthusiasts to appreciate.
