Timepiece Institute

The Timepiece Institute is a non-organizational research group affiliated to the Palace Museum Academy with the majority of its academic personnel consisting of researchers of the Palace Museum. Under the guidance of the Palace Museum Academy, this institute develops individual research projects on timepieces and Sino-Western cultural exchange into cooperative research efforts aimed at resolving key problems and issues in the field. By integrating the institute’s resources, researchers at the institute select and propose projects to tackle key problems in Chinese timepiece history; undertake programs and projects in service of the Palace Museum on Chinese timepiece history, palace timepiece collection history, timepiece technology history, and the conservation of historical timepieces; and support the institute’s research projects issued by various departments on the national, provincial, and municipal level.
