Location: The Hall of Literary Brilliance (Wenhua dian)

The Ceramics Gallery is situated in the quiet courtyard of the Hall of Literary Brilliance (Wenhua dian) to the east of the bustling central axis of main halls. The entrance to the hall’s spacious courtyard, the Gate of Literary Brilliance (Wenhua men), is approached from a passage lined with crabapple trees. The hall was the venue for the regularly held Classics Colloquium (Jing yan) during the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1644), and papers of the Palace Examination were reviewed here.

The gallery is the main showcase for the Museum’s vast collection of 350,000 exquisite ceramic masterpieces. The courtyard’s main hall and the elongated halls on either side have all been converted to exhibition galleries. With modern displays and state-of-the-art lighting, the gallery is a must-see for art aficionados.

The gallery is open all year round. It is currently displaying ceramics from past dynasties in the Palace Museum collection. The exhibition is free with the purchase of a general admission ticket.
