Built in the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), the Hall of Literary Elegance (Chizao tang) was a library where were kept the selections of the four imperial libraries for the Qianlong Emperor (r. 1736-1795) to read at his spare hours. This book in 12,000 volumes is now kept in Taipei Palace Museum.
