Acquisition of Paintings and Calligraphy in the Past Decade

LargeMediumSmallPrinter

During the ten years from 1994 to 2004, some seven-hundred paintings, calligraphy, and stone rubbings were acquired for the Palace Museum collection. Some were generous donations or were offered at favorably low prices and some were acquired in the art market at extremely high cost, all in an attempt to gather the treasures which had been lost from the imperial collection. All these artifacts have both artistic and historical value, which are instrumental for the preservation of traditional culture and for art historical research. In showing these selected works of art from the past decade of acquisitions, we extend our sincere appreciation to the public from whom we have gained great support. We will spare no effort to continue to enrich and enhance the Palace Museum collections. (Organizer: Yuan Jie)
